Hi, The Final Resolution (maybe): In the previous three posts I outlined the history behind the erosion in my back yard and the steps I had taken to try to solve that problem. No matter what I did, my back fence kept falling in the ditch behind my house, but by the last post I …
Hi, The Partial Resolution: In the previous posts, I detailed the issues that had been weakening the ground underneath my back fence (and all of the other nine houses on my side of our cul-de-sac), and talked about the first three times I had the fence rebuilt. The latest (only partially successful) solution involved installing …
Hi, In the previous post, I covered some of the background about why the land is eroding under all of the back fences on my side of our cul-de-sac. This post is about what I went through to try to fix the problem permanently. In 2016, a year after we believe the ditch behind our …
Hi, I’ve mentioned the problems we have had with our back fence several times before. It looks like they might finally be resolved sometime this year. I’ll be telling this tale in three posts so it won’t end up as a single book-length screed, and I’ll spread it out over the space of three months …

In 2021 my first mowing was on May 8th, In 2022 on April 15th, and in 2023 it was on March 20th. It’s been getting earlier every year. Global warming? Yes, …
Newsletter 055 – January 26, 2024 Hi, This year I will hopefully not run into as much external interference as I did last year. The “interruptions” I mentioned frequently that several things last year did pull me off track and slowed down my progress, but I can’t afford to use those as excuses. I need …
Newsletter 035 – March 24, 2023 Hi, In the previous newsletter I mentioned that I do try to write and edit for several hours each day, but sometimes life’s little interruptions keep that from happening. I’m often awake before sunrise, and a recent day was no exception. That day I woke up around 5:00 am …
[Originally posted on my former blog, Michael Runs the Gamut] I was honored to be interviewed recently by the nice folks at Scribe, the Writers’ League of Texas’ blog, for their Meet the Members segment. It posted today. Here’s a copy of the interview. MEET THE MEMBERS Posted by Writers’ League Staff, March 17, 2014 …
