Comedy Is Easy, Focus Is Hard…

Hi,

[Medical and Literary Updates: I’m finding it difficult to focus for long periods of time, which makes the writing more difficult, of course. Some of it’s mental fuzziness, although most of that disappeared after I stopped taking pain medication, The rest of it is because of my daily routine now.

One of the things I’m supposed to do for my physical therapy, in addition to specific exercises three days a week, is to get up at least once every thirty minutes, and move around. Each of those times, when I do stand up the pain in my hip is severe, so I start by limping and holding my hip. After a minute or so of shuffling, bent over, down the hallway, it eases somewhat, and I can actually walk upright with only minimal pain. According to my surgeon this is perfectly normal, and will get better, but he says it could take as much as a year before my new hip stops painfully reminding me that it’s not just natural bone.

I might be narrowing in on the end of my first draft of Flood and Fire. I have a few more scenes I haven’t written, but I’m close. As I think I have mentioned, a first draft is just the opening salvo in an extensive editing, rewriting, and polishing process. Sometime during that process I will also try to find time for cover art, do the layout of the final copy (there’s an art to it), and prep the files for printing and uploading as e-books. It’s a process, but a writer can’t afford to skip any of the steps. While I’m doing that I’ll also have to try and find time to re-edit Jagged Man (the novel is finished, but has a few problems), redo its cover, etc., etc.

Michael
