Update to the Previous Update: I have done practically nothing on the novella for over two weeks. In the previous post I mentioned I had what appeared to be a summer cold. Unfortunately, I tested a couple of days later and it definitely was Covid. I passed it on to Minay, of course, and we were both down with it for over a week. This was the first time either of us were infected with it ***
Six vaccinations apiece and prudent masking helped for the last two years, but I was apparently exposed during a simple shopping trip to the hardware and grocery stores near the end of June.
Then, about the time we thought we got past the Covid infection, Houston was hit with a hurricane (Hurricane Beryl). The eye passed right over us. Our house withstood the winds just fine. We also got something close to six inches of rain in the space of 12 hours, but it ran off nicely in our neighborhood. Remember that fence I had replaced a year ago because it fell into the ditch behind our house? Not one single board was torn loose from it (but the whole fence is leaning slightly outward, toward, yes, the ditch), To top that off, our power went out at 10:30 Monday morning, and wasn’t restored until about 11:00 AM on Thursday (yesterday). It has been an interesting few weeks. 😊]
*** I may not have told the absolute truth above. Minay and I have been discussing something recently. It’s possible that I might have had one of the very first (unconfirmed) cases of Covid in the entire country (late December 2019 through January 2020), but that’s probably best kept for an entire newsletter. Maybe I’ll do that next time.
