September 20, 2024, Fence, Wrist, and Writing…

Hi,

Here are some updates on our fence, my wrist, and my writing:

I’ve mentioned the fencing situation a few times before, but here’s another one. Hopefully there won’t be too many more. Briefly, though, the fence is partially done but still in limbo. I hired a company to brace the fence from the outside (they said it was the only way to make it stable because of the eroding earth under it), but they had just finished sinking three of the five required braces (metal poles) into the ground at a slight angle (leaning toward the back of our house), maybe a couple of degrees, and had drilled them tightly into the fence posts (very sturdy) when a man arrived saying he owned that land and when we finished putting them in he would just rip them out with his Bobcat. After some discussion he admitted that he wouldn’t do that until his boss told him to, so we stopped the installation and said we would talk to his boss to see what we could work out. I spoke to his boss, then contacted my HOA, and they set up a meeting with him. He agreed to work with us to possibly resolve the issue for all of the fences that border his property. I’m hopeful that everything will come to a satisfactory conclusion.

The pain in my wrist is getting worse, but my surgery is scheduled for early next month, and then (after several weeks of healing) I’ll get to start rehab. I won’t be able to use my right hand for a period of time, so I’ve re-installed a 2016 version of Dragon Naturally Speaking. I haven’t used it for several years (the newest version is too expensive for me) and have been training it. I think I’ll be able to get some writing done using it, even if my hand can’t function well enough for a while. Between the last newsletter and this one, I did manage to work a little more on Flood and Fire, but not as much as I would like. I’ll have to force myself to work harder at it for the rest of the month.

The next post will be about my hand surgery.

Michael
