Splints and AFib and Books, Oh My…

Hi,

I have some good news. My hand surgery is healing nicely. I’m in the removable splint now (no more plastic bags over my hand when I shower). Five days after this newsletter is emailed I can remove it all day, but wear it at night for a couple more weeks, at which point I should be able to stop using it altogether, and can start focusing on building strength in my thumb.

To add to the excitement, though, I had an appointment last week with my cardiologist about my A-Fib. I was complaining about the cost of Eliquis (very expensive), and he said we’ve been monitoring my condition for two years now and it hadn’t improved, so he suggested doing an electrical cardioversion. Basically it involves shocking my heart to see if we can get it to revert back to a normal rhythm pattern. I agreed, and underwent the procedure yesterday. I’m out of A-Fib now, but in a couple of weeks we’ll do an EKG and see if I stayed out. Fingers crossed.

Literary Update: I’ve done very little writing lately. This update is about the longest thing I’ve written in several weeks (at least this doesn’t deal with historical writing that needs constant research for accuracy), but with my hand improving I hope to make progress on Flood and Fire in the coming months. Stay tuned.

Michael
